Annual Well-Woman Exam in Miami, FL
Your annual well-woman exam is the single most important visit you can make for your long-term health. Dr. Sidiq Aldabbagh provides thorough, compassionate preventive gynecologic care for women of all ages at two Miami locations — ensuring every woman has access to the screenings, vaccines, and counseling she needs to stay well.
What Is the Annual Well-Woman Exam?
The well-woman exam is a comprehensive preventive care visit — not just a Pap smear. It includes a review of your medical and family history, vital signs, body mass index, physical examination, pelvic exam, breast exam, and individualized health counseling. Laboratory tests and screenings are ordered based on your age, risk factors, and last results.
Cervical Cancer Screening
Pap smear and HPV testing are performed based on current ACOG guidelines: Pap smear alone every 3 years for ages 21–29; Pap plus HPV co-test every 5 years for ages 30–65. Abnormal results are evaluated with colposcopy and managed appropriately.
Breast Health & Mammogram Referral
Clinical breast examination is performed at every annual visit. Dr. Aldabbagh reviews your mammogram history and orders mammography referrals per current screening guidelines (available to most women annually starting at age 40 or earlier for high-risk patients). BRCA risk assessment and genetic counseling referral are offered when indicated.
STI Screening & Vaccines
Annual STI screening for sexually active women includes chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B/C based on risk factors and age. HPV vaccination is recommended through age 26 and available for eligible women through age 45. Tdap and influenza vaccination discussions are included.
Health Counseling & Chronic Disease Prevention
The annual visit is an ideal time to discuss mental health, sexual health, contraception, smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise, bone health, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Dr. Aldabbagh takes a holistic approach — addressing your whole health, not just your gynecologic concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions
A well-woman exam is a comprehensive preventive care visit that includes a Pap smear (if due) plus physical examination, breast exam, STI screening, health counseling, and laboratory testing. A Pap smear is just one component of the annual visit — not the entire exam.
ACOG recommends annual well-woman visits for all women from age 13 through the end of life. Even if your Pap smear is not due every year, the annual visit still provides important health monitoring, counseling, and screening.
Yes — annual preventive well-woman exams are covered at 100% with no cost-sharing (no copay, no deductible) by most insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act. Call our office to verify your specific plan.
Your visit includes: a review of your health history and concerns, vital signs and BMI, pelvic examination, Pap smear if due, breast examination, blood pressure check, and discussion of any screening labs needed. The visit typically takes 30–45 minutes.
ACOG recommends the first gynecologic visit between ages 13 and 15 for education and counseling. Pelvic exams and Pap smears begin at age 21. Annual visits should continue throughout life — including after menopause and into older age.
Standard labs vary by age and risk factors but commonly include: CBC (complete blood count), thyroid function (TSH), fasting lipid panel, fasting blood glucose or HbA1c, STI testing (chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis), vitamin D, and iron studies if indicated.
No — Pap smear frequency follows current ACOG guidelines: every 3 years for ages 21–29 (Pap alone); every 5 years for ages 30–65 (Pap plus HPV co-test). However, your annual well-woman visit is still recommended every year regardless of Pap smear schedule.
Abnormal Pap smear results (ranging from ASCUS to HSIL) trigger follow-up protocols. Depending on your result and HPV status, next steps may include repeat testing in 1 year, colposcopy (examination of the cervix with magnification), or cervical biopsy. Dr. Aldabbagh explains results clearly and guides you through next steps.
Yes — you can schedule your visit during your period, though light flow days produce the most accurate Pap smear results. For the week before your appointment, avoid douching, vaginal products, and intercourse for best results.
A digital rectal exam is occasionally performed when clinically indicated, particularly for women with posterior pelvic symptoms or for older women. Colorectal cancer screening discussions and referrals for colonoscopy are part of comprehensive preventive care for women over 45.
