What is menopause?

You have officially reached menopause when you’ve gone one full year without a menstrual cycle and have a permanent cessation of menstrual bleeding. In the United States, the average age of menopause is 51.

Some women, however, may reach menopause before age 40, which requires management from the women’s health care team at Trusted Women's Health Center.

Before you officially hit menopause, your body goes through a transitional period called perimenopause as your hormones fluctuate. During perimenopause, you may still continue to have a menstrual cycle, but your periods may be spaced out with no predictable pattern.

What are the symptoms of menopause?

Menopausal symptoms usually begin during perimenopause as your hormones begin to fluctuate. Common symptoms include:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Mood changes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Lack of energy
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Weight gain

While the symptoms you experience may vary in both type and severity, for many women, the symptoms can be disruptive to their everyday life. Dr. Aldabbagh specializes in the management of perimenopause and menopause, and she can develop the most effective treatment plan to help improve your symptoms so you can continue to live your best life.

What treatments can relieve my symptoms?

Dr. Aldabbagh offers both hormonal and nonhormonal treatments for the management of your menopausal symptoms.
