OB/GYN in South Florida

Many women think the only doctor they’ll ever have to visit every year is their primary care physician for a general checkup. While OB/GYNs practice a specialized form of healthcare, they can provide you with life-saving preventative care on top of the gynecological and pregnancy services that they offer.

What Does an OB/GYN Do?

While going to see a specialist may seem a little strange at first,  the reality is that the significance of going to an OB/GYN is above and beyond that of most other specialists. While going to a cardiologist every few months or a neurologist for check-ups is necessary for some people with specific issues, an OB/GYN is necessary for all women, young and old.

While it may seem like your primary care physician is all you need, in reality, there are several reasons why you need an OB/GYN in South Florida as well. Specialists are ideal for when you want a doctor who may be more focused on a particular part of the body and treatment.

Like other specialists, an OB/GYN should not be your only doctor or your primary care physician, as an OB/GYN is more focused on a particular part of the female body, the female reproductive system.

OB/GYNs are essential for life-saving preventive care (including lab tests and physical exams) that a general doctor cannot perform. An OB/GYN practices the area of medicine associated with reproductive health, pregnancy, and childbirth.

Preventative Care From an OB/GYN

A Pap smear is typically part of an annual gynecology checkup and is an important preventative care service. During the exam, your doctor first inserts a speculum to hold the vagina open and uses a swab to collect cells.

These cells are collected in and around the cervical region, where the uterus opens into the vaginal canal. The cells that are collected are sent to a laboratory where they are examined for abnormal cells that might signal cancerous growth.

Most women can agree that this procedure may be uncomfortable and slightly awkward, but Dr. Sidiq’s patients often share that this is no longer the case. Dr. Sidiq at the Trusted Women’s Health Center has worked with hundreds of women and can comfortably and easily lead them throughout the process, keeping his patients calm and engaged. It is easy and painless with little to no discomfort.

If the results of your Pap test come back positive, that means your doctor found abnormal or unusual cells on your cervix. This does not mean you have cervical cancer. In most cases, the abnormal test result means there have been cell changes caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Cancer is usually not the reason why your Pap test is abnormal.

The most common reason for an abnormal Pap test is a vaginal or cervical infection that causes changes in the cells of your cervix. Most of these changes can be followed closely until they return to normal. This ensures that if you do indeed develop cancer, our doctors can start treating immediately..
